On March 8, 2008, a new Ms San Diego Leather joined the Sisterhood of Ms San Diego Leathers. Donna Tello was awarded the title by an esteemed panel of judges. Lauren Ide, International Ms Leather 2007, was the head judge. She was joined at the judging table by JJ Perez who is Ms. Southern California Latin Leather 2008, Sister Pollyanal Buttercup of the San Diego Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Ms. Maeve who is a San Diego leather community educator and Fem Domme, Nina who is a local radio disc jockey and a member of the San Diego leather community, Buster who is Mr. San Diego Leather 2006. The final judge was chosen at the San Diego Leather Awards the previous Saturday. His name is Cobi and he is also a lont-time member of the community, as well as being a member of the San Diego Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
Once again, we were honored and pleased to have the lovely and talented Karen Ultra perform the emcee duties. She was, as always, entertaining, witty and dressed to the nines, including her trademark fabulous head decor. And, she brought the contest in in under an hour! We had some time contraints due to another event that was happening at the same venue right after the contest, but Karen stepped up to the plate and pulled it off with grace and unbelievable time management.
The evening opened with a Color Guard that consisted of leather women that were also military veterans. They were: Mickey who represented the US Marine Corp, Jo Blas who represented the US Army, Shani who represented the US Navy and Annie Romano who represented the US Air Force. All were in dress leathers with crisp white shirts and white gloves. A very striking and moving ceremony.
After the Color Guard, there was a wonderful troupe of belly dancers that entertained the audience for about 15 minutes. They are a local group of belly dancers that have formed a non-profit organization and support many good causes throughout the community
Then the contest started and moved at lightning speed! At 8:20, the scores were tabulated and Donna Tello was introduced for the first time as Ms San Diego Leather 2008.
The producers and owners of Ms San Diego Leather would like to send a thank you out to Ms San Diego Leather 2007, Alissa Mae, for her work and dedication to the title during the time she held it. We look foward to working with Donna in the coming year and wish her the best of luck in all of her endeavors.
